Partnership begins for NIFL: NFL to train, assign officials
February 25, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Lakeland ThunderBolts News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. âThe National Indoor Football League's department of officiating has entered into a partnership with the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) to recruit, train, supervise, and assign all officials for the five-year old league.
Evaluation will also be a big part of the NFL's involvement for the 2005 season. The agreement was concluded several weeks ago at the NIFL's Orlando meetings and was announced following all the preparation with Ron Bayne, supervisor of officials for the NFL.
Dan Blum, who was the NIFL's supervisor of officials, was promoted to director of operations for the league. He will still be overseeing officiating as well as taking on other operational aspects of the NIFL.
All NIFL officials who worked for the league had to re-apply to be eligible to work the 2005 season.
Bayne said he was extremely pleased with the addition of the NIFL. "We will give the NIFL a first-class group of officials. Something we can all be proud of in the coming seasons."
The NFL foresees officials from the NIFL gaining valuable experience and receiving an opportunity to move up and work on Sundays (NFL).
