Lakeland ThunderBolts News Release
On Monday Night the Lakeland Thunderbolts advanced to the AIFA Southern Division Conference Championship with a 54-32 victory over the Carolina Speed at the Lakeland Center. The Thunderbolts came into the game with two victories over the speed during the regular season and faced the difficult task of defeating the same opponent three times in one year."They had two weeks to prepare for us and when you have that long to prepare for anybody you will be able to run with them for a little while,"Thunderbolts head coach Teddy Keaton said of the Speed. Carolina came out with great intensity and were leading 32-29 in the third quarter when then the Thunderbolts took back control of the game lead by Full Back Jermaine Blakely.Blakely had four touchdowns on the night; his 31 yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter sealed the victory.Blakely is a beast, he's a man child," Keaton said."I'm glad to have him on my team;I wouldn't want to have to stop him."
The Lakeland Thunderbolt defense was lead by Larry Thompson who recorded two interceptions and returned one for a 36 yard touch down. The entire defense held Carolina to 102 yards of offense. Speed quarterback Mario Fernandez threw for two touchdowns, but completed just 7 of 20 passes for 64 yards. You want your defense to come out and finish the ball game," Keaton said."We found a way to win. That was our motto coming into this game. We found a way to win."
The next task for the Thunderbolts is a Match up with the Mississippi Mudcats on Monday night June 18th at 7:15 pm at the Lakeland Center for the Chance to play for the AIFA Championship in Florence South Carolina on June 23rd.
