Parsons Named CHL Player Of The Week

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – Monday evening the Central Hockey League named Memphis right winger Don Parsons the CHL's Player the Week. Parsons is the first RiverKing to receive weekly recognition from the CHL this season, although he was also selected as the CHL Player of the Month for December, 2002. The RiverKings are home this Thursday and Friday against Laredo and Oklahoma City respectively. Parsons, last season's Most Valuable Player in both the regular season and playoffs, led the RiverKings to five points in four contests last week, scoring in each game and accumulating nine total points. His top performance of the week came in a 6-5 shootout loss at Wichita February 26th, where he scored twice and added a pair of assists. Three nights later, Parsons scored his 50th goal of the season, reaching that plateau for his third consecutive year. The Boston, Massachusetts native is again a strong candidate for CHL Most Valuable Player honors this season, leading the circuit in both goals (51) and points (94). He has scored a goal in four straight games and recorded a point in six consecutive to help the ‘Kings tally points in seven of their last eight games.

Matt Barnes of the Austin Ice Bats was selected as the CHL Goalie of the Week.

· This coming Friday join the ‘Kings for a wild night as wrestling legend Jerry "The King" Lawler makes a special appearance when Memphis takes on Oklahoma City.
