March 4, 2003 - SPHL (SPHL)
Jacksonville Barracudas News Release

The Barracudas played three games this past week, winning two, against Orlando and Cape Fear, and losing to Macon.

A week of rest and practice helped the Barracudas immensely and it was evident in their performance on Thursday night. The week started with the ‘Cudas facing the fourth place Cape Fear Fire Antz at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The team got off to a strong start, scoring three goals in the opening stanza and held a 3-1 margin at the end of the first period. The locals kept the spirit and the red light going and scored four more goals in the second period to lead 7-2 at the end of two. Both teams added a tally in the third period to make the final 8-3 ‘Cudas. Jamie Miller and Paul Vincent both tallied two goals each while Kory Baker, Chad Cabana, Nate Caswell and Jay Niemiec added one each. Vincent also has four assists for a game total of six points.

The next night the red hot Macon Trax came to town and the Barracudas started up right where they left off the night before. The ‘Cudas scored the only goal in the first period and led 1-0. The second period had each lighting the red light as Macon scored twice and Jacksonville added a single goal. The score at the end of two periods....2-2. Then the wheels fell off the Barracudas band wagon as Macon scored five goals in the third period (two of them were empty netters) and coasted to a 7-3 victory. Tommy Stewart of Macon continued his torrid scoring, tallying two goals, as did David Deeves. The ‘Cudas had goals from Jamie Miller, Paul Vincent and Kory Baker.

Saturday afternoon, the league-leading Orlando Seals came to town and left with their tails between their legs as the locals handed them a 5-2 whipping. The ‘Cudas tallied three goals in the first period and were never challenged after the opening bell. Jamie Miller again added two goals and Paul Vincent continued his point barrage with a goal and four assists. The Barracudas also had goals from Chad Cabana and Jason Vermeulen.

The team will resume their home stand with games Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at the Coliseum. The Winston Salem Parrots come to town on Thursday and Knoxville's Ice Bears are in on Friday. Macon makes a return engagement on Saturday to conclude the week's games.

All games will be web cast over www.sportsjuice.com or jacksonvillebarracudas.com.
