Parks Backstops Spirit to 4-0 Shutout of Majors

The Saginaw Spirit shutout the league leading Mississauga St. Michael's Majors by a score of 4-0 Sunday evening at the Hershey Centre of Mississauga, with goalie Mavric Parks netting his first shutout of the season. Winger Josh Shalla tallied a goal and two assists, while center Ivan Telegin and winger Jordan Szwarz each posted two assists.
The win completes a Stanley Steemer Clean Sweep over the Majors, with the Spirit taking the two game season series between the two teams; Saginaw beat Mississauga in a 3-2 decision at The Dow Event Center on October 22. The Spirit lead the OHL Western Conference with 54 points and a 25-8-3-1 record.
The Spirit opened scoring immediately in the first period, with captain Jordan Szwarz notching his fifteenth of the season 0:39 seconds in to make it 1-0 Saginaw. Defenseman Ryan O'Connor and winger Josh Shalla assisted on the goal. Winger Brandon Saad moved the score to 2-0 with a power play goal at 7:43 in the second from Shalla and center Vincent Trocheck.
The Spirit rounded out scoring in the third period. Center John McFarland made it 3-0 with his third goal in two days at the 11:09 mark, courtesy center Ivan Telegin. Shalla posted his third point of the night, thirty-first goal of the season, with a power play goal at 14:51 from Telegin and Szwarz moving the scoring to 4-0.
Spirit goalie Mavric Parks tallied 33 saves on 33 shots in the shutout, while Majors goalie Anthony Peters notching 18 saves on 22 shots.
