Majors Fall to Saginaw

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors fell to the Saginaw Spirit today bu a score of 4-0. With the win, the Spirit sweep the season series between the conference leaders. With the loss, the Majors record falls to 29-6-0-1.

Saginaw didn't waste anytime jumping out in front when Jordan Szearz put one past Anthony Peters 0:39 into the first period with the assists going to Ryan O'Connor and Josh Shalla. Although the Majors outshot the Spirit 12-5 in the first, they could not solve Spirit goalie Mavric Parks, and Saginaw took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Spirit would extend their lead in the second when Brandon Saad notched a powerplay goal at 7:43 to make it 2-0 Saginaw. This time the assists went to Shalla and Vincent Trocheck. The Majors outshot the Spirit again in the second, this time 10-8, but they still couldn't solve Parks who was strong in the Saginaw net. At the end of 2 periods, it was 2-0 Saginaw.

Things didn't get much better for Mississauga in the third period. At 11:09, John McFarland put a little more distance between the two clubs and made it 3-0. Ivan Telegin got his first point of the evening with an assist on the McFarland goal. Saginaw added one more at 14:51 when Shalla scored a powerplay goal to make it 4-0. The assists on the final goal of the game went to Telegin and Szwarz.

The Majors outshot Saginaw again in the third period but could not solve Parks who was stellar making 33 saves in the shutout. Anthony Peters made 14 saves in a losing effort for the Majors. The games three stars were Parks, Szwarz and Smith-Pelly.
