The Windsor Spitfires and the Sun County Panthers Triple "A" Bantam squad -2011 ICG Team Windsor-Essex took to the ice earlier today for the "Battle of the Boys" at the WFCU Centre. 1,200 fans attended the game to support Team Windsor Essex's fundraising efforts, as they will be travelling to Kelowna, BC for the 2011 International Children's Winter Games from January 26-30.
The Windsor Spitfires would like to thank all attending fans for their support in making this event a tremendous success!
Prior to the commencement of the game, a ceremonial puck drop was conducted and featured Windsor Mayor Eddie
Francis and Sienna Francis, Kate Malenfant, Ray Grassi honourary coach of the Sun County Panthers Triple "A" Bantam
squad -2011 ICG Team Windsor Essex and Mark Renaud honourary coach of the Spitfires .
In today's game, the Windsor Spitfires and Team Windsor-Essex put on a show for fans, exchanging goals for two 15-minute periods of fun and exciting action. With both teams playing shinny for 30 minutes, the game ended in a 7-7 tie during regulation play. A shootout decided the result and ultimately, seven shooters into it, Kenny Ryan scored the game winner for the Spits and secured an 8-7 victory for the home side.
