New Jersey Cardinals News Release


The New Jersey Cardinals announce that Mike Parisi has been promoted to the Peoria Chiefs, the Single-A Midwest League affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Parisi was one of the Cardinals top pitchers, compiling a 4-2 record with a 4.42 ERA (36.2 IP, 18 ER) in 7 starts. The right-hander was named New York Penn League Pitcher of the Week for the week ended July 18 after he went 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA (13.0 IP, 3 ER) for the week. He had won each of his last 4 starts, going 4-0 with a 2.84 ERA (25.1 IP, ER) with 19 strikeouts over that span.

Jaymes Torres, another right-handed pitcher, was also promoted to Peoria this week. He made 12 appearances for the Cardinals, pitching to a 2-1 record and 1.42 ERA (25.1 IP, 4 ER). In a related move, right-hander Michael Gross was called up to New Jersey from Johnson City where he was 1-1 with 3 saves and a 5.68 ERA (19.0 IP, 12 ER). Gross was drafted by the St. Louis organization in the 38th round out of the University of North Carolina.

The Cardinals are back in action tonight as they take on the Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees) tonight at 7:15 pm at Skylands Park in the final game of a 4-game series; the Cardinals have won 2 out of the first 3 games of the series. Following tonights game there will be a post-game party at the Hampton House Bar & Grill with Cardinals players, coaches and staff. Then, on Wednesday, New Jersey travels to Oneonta (Detroit Tigers) to open a 3-game series with the Tigers and then travels to Brooklyn (New York Mets) on Saturday. The club returns home on Sunday, August 8, against the Cyclones. Sunday there will be a poster giveaway and Kids Race Around the Bases.
