New Jersey Cardinals News Release
This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) defeated the Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees) by a score of 9-0. Miguel Aguero (2-2) was the winning pitcher and Jason Jones (2-3) was the losing pitcher. The win brought the Cardinals to 22-20 on the year the Yankees fell to 14-27.
Miguel Aguero shut out the Yankees in 7 innings of work, allowing just 5 hits. New Jersey scored 3 runs in the 5th inning all with two outs. Wes Swackhamer had a single to center followed by another single from Cody Palmer. Matt Shepherd drove in Swackhamer on a single to left. Sean Dobson hit a 2 run single to score Palmer and Shepherd. The Cardinals added 1 in the 7th, and 5 more in the 8th inning. Cody Palmer had a 3 run double in the 8th. Mike Sillman and Mike Gross combined for 2 innings of shutout relief to preserve the victory.
The Cards return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Oneonta (Detroit Tigers) to open a 3-game series with the Tigers. The club then travels to Brooklyn (New York Mets) on Saturday. The Birds return home on Sunday, August 8, against the Cyclones. Sunday there will be a poster giveaway and Kids Race Around the Bases.
