Calgary Stampeders News Release
The Calgary Stampeders are pleased to announce that kicker Rene Paredes and running back Jon Cornish have been voted as Canadian Football League's players of the month for October-November. Paredes is the league's top special-teams player for that period while Cornish has been named top Canadian.
Paredes, the Stampeders' nominee for the CFL's Most Oustanding Special Teams Player award, was a perfect 14-for-14 on field goals in the five games during October and November. He was five-for-five from beyond 40 yards including three 46-yard field goals and a 44-yard game-winner on the final play of the game on Nov. 2 in Edmonton.
The streak of successful field goals - 18 in a row dating back to Sept. 23 - raised Paredes' success rate for the season to 93.0 per cent, a new franchise record and the second-best figure in CFL history.
The 27-year-old from Pierrefonds, Que., also kicked 14 extra points during October and November for a total of 56 points in five games.
Cornish concludes a record-breaking season with his third consecutive Canadian player of the month award. The 28-year-old New Westminster. B.C., native was also named Canadian player of the week on seven occasions and offensive player of the week once.
Cornish - who is the Stamps' nominee for both the Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Canadian awards - ran for 330 yards in October/November and scored two rushing touchdowns. He added 11 catches for 155 yards and one major.
In the Stampeders' regular-season finale Friday in Edmonton, Cornish clinched the 2012 CFL rushing title and broke Normie Kwong's 56-year-old record for most rushing yards in a season by a Canadian.
