Bay Area Panthers News Release
The Panthers are bringing in a proven playmaker with the signing of quarterback Ladarius Skelton, who comes to the Bay Area after a year in Green Bay.
"It's a blessing to be out in California again," said Skelton. "When somebody called and said I was wanted that made me want to go out there even more."
Skelton has a history in the Golden State, playing for Fullerton College in 2017, a legendary JC football program, playing for Tim Byrnes, going 13-0 and winning a National Championship.
"I loved my time there," said Skelton. "I got some of the best food, some of the best air, some of the best weather so I had no choice but to be in the best shape."
From Orange County, Skelton moved to Southern University where he was named the Annual Bayou Classic MVP three times. He embraced carrying the offensive load: in 2019 passing for 12 touchdowns while leading the team in rushing with over 1,000 yards on the way to an appearance in the SWAC Championship game.
"I never got too wrapped up in winning awards. It's about helping my team and having fun with the game. I wasn't concerned with getting my stats-it was about winning the game. I wanted to put my guys in the right places-making the wrongs become right. "
In coming West, Skelton explained what he brings to the table.
"I can make decisions quickly and use my physical weapons, "said Skelton. "The IFL game moves much quicker than the outdoor game with how condensed everything is. You have to make a read quicker and get it out of your hands quicker."
Skelton signed late with Green Bay last season but did enough to make an impression on the Bay Area coaching staff.
"One of things I like about Ladarius is that he does have some IFL experience at the quarterback position and showed he can do a lot on the field," said Head Coach Darren Arbet. "I think he can really help us."
Skelton earned three varsity letters at Pine Bluff High School, leading the Zebras to the Class 6A title game all three seasons, winning the last two and MVP of the championship game. He was named the 2016 Landers Award Winner and was a three-time All Conference selection and mad the All State Team.
"I'll do whatever I can to catch The Man's eye to take me to the next level," said Skelton. "I'm an athlete that can do whatever the coaches need me to do to help the team win. I can play receiver. I can play corner. I can play running back. I can play linebacker or D-line if you want me to play there. You just got to have fun with it. God gave you the ability. You just got to do it to the best of your ability."
