
Panthers Sign LW Craig MacDonald and D Kent Huskins

Sunrise, FLA. - Florida Panthers General Manager Rick Dudley announced today that the club has signed unrestricted free agents LW Craig MacDonald and D Kent Huskins to one-year contracts. As per club policy, financial details of the pacts were not disclosed. MacDonald, 26, played in 35 games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season, scoring four points (one goal, three assists) with 20 penalty minutes. Huskins, 24, played in all 80 games with Norfolk of the American Hockey League last season, scoring 27 points (five goals, 22 assists) with 48 penalty minutes.
MacDonald, originally drafted by the Hartford Whalers in the fourth round (88th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, also spent time with the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League last season. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound native of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, scored 27 points (seven goals, 20 assists) with 38 penalty minutes in 27 games with Lowell. MacDonald, who has six points (two goals, four assists) in 58 career NHL games, was part of Carolina's run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2002, appearing in four playoff games. He played collegiate hockey at Harvard.
Huskins, originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the sixth round (156th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, has spent the last two seasons with Norfolk. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound native of Ottawa, Ontario has scored 42 points (nine goals, 33 assists) with 92 penalty minutes in 145 games during his two-year pro career. Prior to skating with Norfolk, Huskins enjoyed a four-year collegiate career at Clarkson, where he was a Hobey Baker Award candidate and led all ECAC defensemen in scoring in 2000-01. Huskins was an All-ECAC selection in 2000 and 2001.
Dudley also announced today that the club has released its rights to C/LW Jeff Toms, so that he may pursue other opportunities in Europe.

The Rampage open the 2003-04 campaign in Utah, before returning home to face the Grizzlies in a rematch on October 11 at 7:00 p.m.
