Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
The Palm Beach Cardinals won Game One of their doubleheader against the Jupiter Hammerheads 5-3, but lost the second game 5-4.
Pitching was split in game one for the Cardinals. Wilmer Ortega started the day off, picking up in the fifth inning from the suspended day. The Venezuelan did not record an out, allowing two runs on three walks and a strikeout. Tanner Jacobson tossed two and a third scoreless innings, only allowing two hits while striking out one. Henry Gomez then got the save after pitching the last two innings. The righty allowed one run and allowed four baserunners, two hits and two walks.
Pitching in game two started strong but couldn't finish the game. Starter Pete Hansen tossed six solid innings. The southpaw only allowed one run and struck out six batters. Then, Luis Gastelum came in looking for a save. The Mexican pitcher did not record an out and allowed three runs, one unearned, on three hits. Joseph King came in and is credited with the loss and a blown save. The right hander allowed inherited runs but escaped the seventh in a tie game. King then allowed the courtesy runner in extras as the final run of the game.
The offense in game one was consistently on base. Every starter reached base safely over the two-day contest. Michael Curialle seemed to get back on track, totaling three hits with his single to add onto his two before the game was suspended. Joshua Baez also looked good, with three total hits after two during the continuation. One of those two was a homer to add a much-needed insurance run.
The Palm Beach offense was very stagnant throughout the contest. All four runs were scored in the third inning. Michael Curialle drove in one run on a sacrifice fly. Then, Joshua Baez drilled his second homer of the day with a three-run shot. After that, the team kept getting on base and in scoring position, not couldn't score any of them. In the end, The Cardinals went 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten runners on base total.
The Cardinals and Hammerheads will meet again on Friday June 30th at 6:30 pm. It will be Dog Day at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Mans best friend gets in free with a paid human ticket. It will also be Library Night. Get tickets here.
