No-Hit Bid Ends in Defeat for Marauders

Bradenton, Fla.--- The Marauders (3-2, 38-32) and the Clearwater Threshers (4-1, 48-22) met for the second game of a six-game series at LECOM park on a hot and humid Thursday night on the Suncoast. Bradenton had a no-hit bid going more than halfway through the game but would eventually fall 5-1.

The Marauders took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Jesus Castillo rushed home with some brave base running on a drop third strike throw to first.

Bradenton enjoyed a fantastic start from right-hander Owen Kellington who tossed four hitless innings, allowing only three walks while striking out two Threshers hitters. Alessandro Ercolani made a one-inning cameo in which he handled the Threshers in 1-2-3 fashion on just ten pitches.

After being held hitless through five innings, Clearwater came alive; the second pitch of the second inning resulted in a solo home run to tie the game and break up the no-hit effort.

The Threshers added another in the sixth to take a 2-1 lead and went from hitless to in front in the blink of an eye.

Clearwater picked up a pair of runs in the seventh and their fifth and final run in the ninth before shutting the Marauders down to seal a 5-1 win.

The night's story was the Marauders failure to capitalize on prime scoring chances. Bradenton ended the game with 13 LOB and went 0-9 in chances with runners in scoring position.

The prime missed chances were when the Young Bucs had men on 2nd and 3rd with no outs and did not score. As well as a bases loaded one out spot that saw the Threshers escape unscathed again.

Bradenton looks to bounce back on Friday night at LECOM Park for a 6:30 contest on Crewe Night at the ballpark.
