Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
Trailing by four runs with just six outs remaining in their series against the Bradenton Marauders, the Palm Beach Cardinals could have seen their weekend end uneventfully.
Instead, the Beach Birds rallied for three unanswered runs at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Sunday, but were unable to complete the comeback after going down in order in the ninth. With the 6-5 loss, the Cardinals and Bradenton finish the series tied with three wins apiece.
The Marauders scored the game's first run in the third, but Palm Beach tied the matchup at 1-1 on an Aaron McKeithan RBI single. Brandon Hernandez's single in the fifth would give the Cardinals' the lead one inning later.
Starting pitcher Inohan Paniagua gave Palm Beach five innings, allowing just one run and striking out six. Jose Moreno and Bryan Pope combined for three and 1/3 scoreless frames out of the bullpen.
Palm Beach's undoing Sunday afternoon were five Bradenton runs in the sixth inning. But the Cardinals tightened the matchup in the seventh off a Bradenton wild pitch. Jeremy Rivas would notch an RBI single in the eighth before Brady Whalen scored on a double play to cut the Marauders' lead to just one run.
The home club left just four runners on base and played error-free baseball.
Palm Beach hits the road for a six-game series against the Daytona Tortugas at Jackie Robinson Ballpark this week. Tuesday's first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. The Cardinals are next in action at home on Tuesday, May 31 against their in-stadium rivals Jupiter Hammerheads.
