Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
A day after writing that Palm Beach had only one extra base hit in their last two games against Vero Beach, the Cardinals struck Daytona with an offensive onslaught Wednesday night as the thunder and lightning cleared at Roger Dean Stadium. Ryan Barthelemy led the charge with his second homerun of the season, a towering shot to right center, scoring Juan Lucena. The middle of the line-up consisting of Barthelemy, Terry Evans and Mike Ferris (.343 6th FSL) went 9-for-13 on the night, scoring six runs and driving in five.
Mitchell Boggs (1-2) cruised to his first victory of the season , helped by the 5-0 cushion his offense provided in the first two innings. Jose Garcia, Zach Zuercher and Justin Garza closed the door on the game, each working an inning in relief.

START ME UP
Eric Haberer (1-1) looks to build off of his best start of the 2006 campaign, shutting out the St. Lucie Mets on four hits for eight innings, before giving way to Dennis Dove (S2) in the ninth. Haberer's troubles this year have come early in his previous three starts, allowing six of his nine earned runs in the first two innings. Last year he started one game against the Cubs and suffered a loss, pitching four innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Eric was a 3rd round selection (90th overall) in the 2004 draft out of Southern Illinois University.
Matt Weber (0-2) hopes to improve upon his first appearance against the Cardinals (4/14), allowing five runs on seven hits, in just 3 2/3 innings of work. Weber made his first start of the year last week (4/21), gaining a no-decision against Vero Beach, hurling five innings while surrendering five runs. Weber started his last two games of 2005 with Daytona, after spending most of the season at Peoria. During his three seasons in the Cubs organization, Weber has compiled a 12-14 record and 3.27 ERA. He was selected in the 16th round (2003) out of Boylan Catholic High School in Rockford, IL.
