Aberdeen Wings News Release
The 2014 World Junior Championships began today with team Germany taking on team Canada in Malmo, Sweden. Game time over in Europe was set for 1:30pm but in the states that equates to 6:30am. Aberdeen Wings forward Lennart Palausch skated today for Germany.
Right away in the first period, 1:35 into the game team Germany would score first with a goal from defenseman Dorian Saeftels (Mannheim-Jr) with assists from Patrick Klopper (Krefeld-DEL) and Wings forward Lennart Palausch. 6:21 into the first period Canada would notch the score up at 1-1 with a goal from Josh Anderson (Columbus Blue Jackets) with assists from Frederik Gauthier (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Minnesota Wild defenseman Matthew Dumba. Halfway through the period, Palausch would pick up a 2-minute tripping call. Canada would score off the stick of Anthony Mantha (Detroit Red Wings) making it 2-1. At the 15:59 mark, Germany would tie things up again on a power play goal of their own from defenseman Janik Moser (Muskegon-USHL). Canada's Anthony Mantha would score again with an assist from Tampa Bay Lighting star prospect Jonathan Drouin, score 3-2. Towards the end of the period, Canada would again score with a goal from Bo Horvat (Vancouver Canucks), 4-2 Canada after one period.
Canada would continue their scoring barrage as forward Sam Reinhart (Kootenay-WHL) would slap a goal home with assists from defenseman Josh Morrissey (Winnipeg Jets) and the potential first overall NHL pick in 2015 forward Connor McDavid (Erie-OHL). A name we have already mentioned would score yet again as Canada's Anthony Mantha would score his hat-trick goal at the 11:28 mark in the 2nd period with assists from Drouin and defenseman Derrick Pouliot (Pittsburgh Penguins) making it 6-2 Canada.
At the start of the third period, Canada would increase their lead to 7-2 with a goal from forward Nic Petan (Winnipeg Jets) with an assist from Connor McDavid. Unfortunately Wings forward Lennart Palausch would get hammered with another 2-minute penalty with about 5 minutes left in the game. Canada would win the preliminary round game 7-2 over Germany with a hat-trick from Anthony Mantha.
Regardless of the outcome, the Aberdeen Wings organization is proud of forward Lennart Palausch for being selected to team Germany and congratulate him on getting a point in today's game vs. Canada.
