Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

ABERDEEN, MD - The Connecticut Tigers wasted another complete game effort from Wilsen Palacios and a great chance to come back late in the game to fall 3-2 to the Abderdeen IronBirds on Tuesday night at Ripken Stadium.

Palacios and IronBird's starter Ryan Berry were locked up in a pitcher's duel to start the game.

Aberdeen broke the scoreless game with a run in the fourth on a Wynston Sawyer RBI single.

The Tigers tied it at one in the sixth on an Aaron Westlake solo homer, his second of the year.

However, Aberdeen came back in the home half of the sixth with two runs on two costly Tigers errors.

Glynn Davis reached to start the inning on an error by third baseman Javier Azcona and Mychal Givens then got aboard on a fielder's choice.

With runners on the corners and two outs, Palacios threw to first to try to pick off Givens. Westlake received the ball and instead of throwing down to second to try and get the final out there he saw Davis in between third and home and decided to throw to third base. His throw went wide of Azcona and into left field, allowing both runners to score and giving the IronBirds a 3-1 lead.

Connecticut squandered a golden comeback opportunity in the eighth. After Eugenio Suarez and Chad Wright drew back-to-back walks, Tyler Collins put down a bunt single to load the bases. Westlake then grounded out, scoring Suarez from third and bringing the Tigers within a run. Dean Green drew a walk to again load the bases with one out, but Jeff Holm grounded into an inning ending 4-6-3 double play to end the threat.

Palacios tossed his third consecutive complete game, but came out on the losing end, as he gave up three runs, only one of them earned, on four hits.

The Tigers will continue the three-game series in Aberdeen tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
