Pair of Stealth players selected for All Star Game

February 14, 2006 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
San Jose Stealth News Release

San Jose Stealth forward Derek Malawsky and goaltender Anthony Cosmo have been selected to represent the Western Division in the 2006 National Lacrosse League All-Star Game, which will be played at the Air Canada Center in Toronto on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 1 p.m. Pacific Time. The game can be seen locally on Fox Sports Net Bay Area on tape delay basis March 5 at 7:30 p.m.

The East and West Division starting lineups were determined by the combined votes of the league's general managers, league media and fans, who voted online at the league's official website, www.nll.com. The votes of each of the three groups weighed equally in determining the starting lineups.

Cosmo, who was selected as a starter for the Western Division for the second consecutive year, has had a sensational year in net, stopping 169 shots, posting a 9.09 goals-against average and a .805 save percentage.

This past summer, Cosmo was named the Mann Cup MVP after leading his summer team, the Victoria Shamrocks, to the Mann Cup Championship.

Malawsky, among the league leaders in goals scored, will be making his third All-Star team, and was also a part of the Mann Cup championship team with Cosmo. This season he has scored 12 goals (13th in the league), notched nine assists and has recorded 26 loose balls. His season has been highlighted with the five points (two goals, three assists) he racked up on Jan. 6 at Edmonton.

Each All-Star team will have a total of eighteen players and all eleven NLL teams are represented by at least one player.

The East Division All-Stars will be coached by Rochester Knighthawks head coach Ed Comeau. Comeau will be assisted by Philadelphia Wings head coach Lindsay Sanderson. The West Division All-Stars will be coached by Arizona Sting head coach Bob Hamley. Hamley will be assisted by Calgary Roughnecks head coach Chris Hall.
