Arizona Rattlers News Release

PHOENIX - Josh Golden and Moey Mutz, a pair of players who spent four seasons together at Arizona State, have been reunited with the Arizona Rattlers, the team announced today.

Golden joined the team's practice squad today, while Mutz, who was signed to the team's practice squad on May 16, inked a one-year deal on May 19. Golden will play wide receiver/defensive back and Mutz is a wide receiver/linebacker.

"We are happy to keep these guys in the Valley," said Rattler general manager/head coach Gene Nudo. "Each of them had outstanding careers at a very prestigious program."

Golden (5-10, 176 pounds) was a speedy defensive back that spent time as a cornerback and a safety throughout his career at Arizona State. Last season, he started in all 12 games, finishing fourth on the team in tackles with 59. He also batted down six balls, forced three fumbles and intercepted two passes, including a 58-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The four-year letterman finished his collegiate career with 152 tackles, 18 pass breakups and five interceptions in 50 games. Golden also returned 32 kicks for 671 yards and 19 punts for 190 yards over his four seasons.

Born on Sept. 8, 1981, in San Bernardino, Calif., Golden attended Westlake High School (Westlake Village, Calif.) where he earned All-C.I.F., all-county, and all-league honors his senior year as a wide receiver and defensive back.

Mutz (6-2, 181 pounds), a former walk-on who earned a scholarship in the spring of 2004, emerged as a reliable member of Arizona State's receiving corps the past four seasons. In his career, he played in 37 games, catching 59 passes for 844 yards and four touchdowns. Last season, he averaged 15.8 yards per catch.

Born on May 11, 1983, in Livermore, Calif., Mutz attended Granada Hills High School (Livermore, Calif.) where he holds school receiving records for catches, yards and touchdowns.

The team also released offensive specialist Shannon Culver from the practice squad yesterday.

The No. 3 seed Arizona Rattlers (9-8), winners of ArenaBowl VII and XI, look to advance to the semifinals with a win over the No. 2 seed San Jose SaberCats (10-6) on Saturday, May 27 at HP Pavilion. The contest is set to kick off at 12:30 p.m. PST and can be seen on NBC or heard on ESPN 860 AM.
