Montgomery Biscuits News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Flo. - Kevin Padlo's two-out, two-run home run in the ninth inning broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Biscuits (38-24) to a 3-1 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (24-39) on Sunday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds.

Sam McWilliams fired in seven more shutout innings in a no-decision, and ran his consecutive-scoreless innings streak to a team-high 22.1, surpassing Brendan McKay's 20.1 earlier this season. McWilliams scattered just three hits over the seven scoreless frames and walked only one while striking out three.

McWilliams' counterpart, Cody Poteet of Jacksonville, was almost as good on the other side, hurling eight innings of one-run ball, surrendering three hits, two walks, and four strikeouts in a no-decision. Poteet's only mistake was uncorking a wild pitch in the fourth that allowed Miles Mastrobuoni to score after the left fielder led off the inning with a double.

With the Biscuits up 1-0 in the eighth, the Jumbo Shrimp led off against reliever Ryan Thompson (1-0) with back-to-back singles from B.J. Lopez and Corey Bird. Justin Twine then hit a groundball up the middle, and shortstop Lucius Fox flipped it to Tristan Gray after gloving for the first out. Gray's relay throw to first sailed well over the head of first baseman Robbie Tenerowicz, but took a friendly bounce off the side wall. Tenerowicz collected the carom, made a perfect throw to the plate, but B.J. Lopez sneaked his foot in between catcher David Rodriguez's legs with the tying run.

In the ninth, Brett Graves (1-3) entered for Jacksonville, and served up a one-out double to Jesus Sanchez. After striking out Gray, Graves then ran into Padlo, who crushed his third home run of the series and sixth of the season over the left-center field wall and gave the Biscuits their lead back. Thompson would close things out in the ninth to seal the win.

The Biscuits are now in first place by 3.5 games with eight to play in the First Half, and have matched the 2010 Montgomery team's (38-30) 38 wins for the most in a First Half in club history. Montgomery will try to win the series on Monday night when Paul Campbell makes his Double-A debut against Robert Dugger (6-5) at 6:05 PM CT.

The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for their final series of the first half in a crucial showdown against the third-place Chattanooga Lookouts on Military Wednesday, June 12. The rest of the series will feature Game Show Night and a T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, June 13; Capital City Night on Friday, June 14; Montgomery Rebels Throwback Night featuring a Jersey Auction on Saturday, June 15 (a doubleheader); and A Father's Day Tie Giveaway on Sunday, June 16.
