Pacifics Sign Roenicke, Invite Local Product Pomerantz to Spring Training

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (May 21, 2012) - The San Rafael Pacifics have signed Jason Roenicke, a right-handed pitcher, and the nephew of Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke.

The Pacifics also invited 23-year-old, left-handed pitcher Ross Pomerantz to spring training. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Occidental College alum is a native of Marin County and a 2007 graduate of Marin Academy.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Roenicke - a UC Santa Barbara product - pitched for the Chico Outlaws in 2011, going 3-3 with a 6.34 ERA in 44 innings.

The 26-year-old has other Major League Baseball ties. He is the son of former Baltimore Oriole Gary Roenicke, and his brother Josh pitches for Colorado Rockies.

After being drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 19th round of the 2008 MLB amateur draft, the Baltimore native went on to make his professional debut with the Auburn Doubledays (Single-A short season). That year he finished with a 2.31 earned run average while holding hitters to a .190 average in nine games.

In 2009 he spent the season with the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto, Single-A), going 2-5 with one save and a 4.13 ERA pitching primarily out of the bullpen.

Pomerantz appeared in a team-leading 23 games for Occidental in 2010, furnishing a 4.25 ERA in 50 innings. He limited batters to a .245 batting average, pitching primarily in relief.
