
Pacifics Sign Key Veterans for 2013

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - The San Rafael Pacifics have announced the signing of four veteran players who will look to make an impact in 2013. Pitcher Brodie Downs, and position players Chase Fontaine, Price Kendall, and Ryan Priddy will all report to spring training in 2013.
Brodie Downs, a 6-4 right-handed pitcher, was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 23rd round of the 2007 MLB June Amateur Draft. The 33-year-old pitched in the Mariners organization between 2007 and 2009, posting a career 4.98 minor league ERA. In 2007, for Class AA West Tennessee, Downs posted a 1.96 ERA in 11 relief appearances. He pitched in the starting rotation in 2008, going 5-2 with a 4.10 ERA in 94 innings.
Second baseman Price Kendall is a three-year veteran of Independent ball, having played for the Northern League's Winnipeg Goldeyes from 2010-2012. The 27-year-old is a career .303 hitter with 108 runs batted in and 48 career stolen bases. In 2011 Kendall hit .324 with 54 RBI and 83 runs scored.
Ryan Priddy is a 30-year-old infielder with seven season of professional experience, all in independent ball. A career .275 hitter with 215 RBI, Priddy will serve as the Pacifics' hitting coach as well as manning third base. Priddy had a career year in 2010 for the Tucson Toros of the Golden Baseball League, when he hit .330 (third highest on the team) in 89 games with 48 RBI and seven home runs. He also stole a career-high 13 bases and was second on the team in hit by pitches (14).
Former Pacifics second baseman Chase Fontaine has been re-signed by the Pacifics for 2013. Fontaine was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the 2006 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Daytona Beach Community College. Traded midway through the 2012 season, Fontaine played in 48 games for the Pacifics and hit .294 with four home runs and 25 RBI. He then played 16 games for the independent Schaumburg Boomers of the Frontier League, where he hit .371 in 72 plate appearances with 10 runs and a pair of home runs.
The Pacifics open spring training camp on May 16 with the first full squad workout scheduled for May 17. San Rafael opens the 2013 season on the road in Arizona on May 31 against the Freedom League.
