San Rafael Pacifics News Release

VALLEJO, Calif. - The San Rafael Pacifics lost in extra innings, as the Vallejo Admirals walked-off, 6-5, in 13 innings at Wilson Park.

The marathon contest ended in one of the most bizarre, if not frustrating, ways possible. With San Rafael's A.J. Gallardo (0-1) on the mound, Justin James fought back from a two-strike count just before the left field sprinklers came on. The umpires and both coaching staffs huddled, and agreed to resume play - despite the watery distraction.

The ball fell just out the reach of Chase Fontaine's glove, and into cold, soaking wet grass - as Jesse Olivar raced around third, beating the slippery relay throw and giving Vallejo (5-11) the win.

San Rafael (13-5) failed to plate catcher Matt Quintero in the ninth, Maikel Jova in the tenth, and Darrick Hale in the thirteenth

Designated hitter, Matt Kavanaugh, left the game in the bottom of the eleventh with an apparent hamstring injury. He was helped off the field and examined by trainers, and is listed as day-to-day.

Right-hander J.J. Whetsel uncorked a wild pitch with the tying run on third and two outs in the eighth.

Second baseman Price Kendall (2-for-6) and center fielder Zack Pace (2-for-5) each had a pair of RBIs for San Rafael.

The Pacifics and Admirals will play later tonight, Friday, at Wilson Park for game three of the six game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PST, San Rafael will send right-hander Christian Scholl (3-0, 4.26) to the mound. Coverage for that game can be found on Pointstreak.com, by downloading the Pacifics mobile app and by following the team on Twitter (@SRPacifics).
