Victoria, BC - Pacific Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of defender Abdou Samake for the 2020 Canadian Premier League season.

"Abdou is a great defensive player who wants to keep learning about the game," said Pa-Modou Kah, Head Coach, Pacific FC. "His character and experience in the college and professional environment make him a good fit for Pacific FC."

Samake, 23, was born in Mali and moved to Montreal at the age of seven. The defender is a Montreal Impact FC Academy product and most recently competed with the NCAA's University of Michigan Wolverines. The Canadian defender signs his first professional contract with Pacific FC following his collegiate career in Michigan.

"Abdou is a strong addition to our defensive core and will add good competition among our centre backs," said Rob Friend, CEO, Pacific FC. "He comes to us with a great background from his time at Montreal Impact and a strong University of Michigan program."

The 6'2'' central defender was a member of Montreal Impact's Academy that was ranked No. 1 in the USSDA during the 2014-15 varsity season, allowing just 17 goals in 27 games. Samake was a constant throughout his university career at University of Michigan that finished in 2019. The Canadian defender started all 22 matches in his final season with the Wolves, registering two assists and was named to the NCAA All-Big Ten Tournament team.

Samake will join head coach Pa-Modou Kah's squad for the pre-season come March 1, 2020. The addition of Samake brings Pacific FC's roster to 16 leading up to the 2020 season.
