Pacific Coast League Names Players of the Week
May 6, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Tim Federowicz of the Albuquerque Isotopes and Jeremy Bonderman of the Tacoma Rainiers have been named Pacific Coast League Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 29th - May 5th, the league office announced today.
Federowicz was recalled by the Los Angeles Dodgers in mid-April after pitcher Chris Capuano was placed on the 15-day disabled list, but was then optioned back to Triple-A Albuquerque on April 27th. Last week Federowicz hit a league-leading .571 over six games increasing his season average to .514. The power-hitting catcher amassed 12 hits, seven of which went for extra bases, including three doubles, one triple and three home runs. He also added 10 RBI and had an outstanding line of .583/1.238/1.821.
On April 30th against Memphis, Federowicz went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI and finished a triple shy of the cycle. The following night the Isotopes again faced the Redbirds and Federowicz again exceled going 3-for-4 with four RBI including a 2-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning.
The Erie, PA native was drafted out of the University of North Carolina by the Boston Red Sox in the 7th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. Federowicz was acquired by the Dodgers in July of 2011 in a trade that sent Trayvon Robinson to the Red Sox. He was selected as both a Mid-Season and Post-Season All-Star in the PCL last season.
Bonderman (2-2) had an excellent outing in a win against the Tucson Padres on May 2nd tossing eight shutout innings only surrendering two hits and a walk while striking out seven batters. It was Bonderman's sixth start of the season after previously being out of baseball since last pitching with the Detroit Tigers in September of 2010. After having Tommy John surgery in April of last year, Bonderman began his journey back into baseball and was signed to a minor league contract by the Seattle Mariners in December.
Originally from Kennewick, WA, the 30-year-old right-hander was drafted in the 1st round out of Pasco High School by the Oakland Athletics in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft. He was traded from Oakland to Detroit on July 5, 2002. Bonderman has eight years of Major League experience, all with the Tigers.
