WOODBRIDGE, VA - Nick Moresi gunned down Jason Bour at home plate for the final out of a 4-3 Potomac victory Memorial Day. Bour attempted to score from second on a sharp single to center from Kyle Shelton but was gunned down on a throw from Nick Moresi. Steve Lombardozzi reached on all four plate appearances from the lead-off spot and Robby Jacobsen reached on all four as well including his second home run of the season to pace an efficient Nationals attack.
The scoring got started in the home half of the third of Dash start Nevin Griffith. Jose Lozada slapped a triple down the left field line to start the inning and scored on an infield single from Lombardozzi.
Potomac Start Evan Bronson had sent down nine straight Dash batters heading into the sixth. The Dash responded with out in the sixth with a home run from Jordan Cheatham that flew over the right center field wall to tie the game 1-1. It was his first of the season.
Potomac came back quickly home half of the sixth. With two outs and Derek Norris at second, Tyler Moore hit a sharp single into center to put the P-Nats up 2-1.
Winston-Salem finally started getting to Bronson in the seventh. Jon Gilmore single and Seth Loman reached on a walk to start the inning and Zach Dials came on in relief. He struck out Ozzie Lewis on a failed bunt but Bour hit a bloop single to right-center to even it 2-2. Dials retired the last two batters of the seventh.
Once again Potomac came back to take the lead in the 7th. Robby Jacobsen led off the inning with a blast over the left field wall and into the woods to put Potomac up 3-2. Nick Moresi backed up the homer with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jose Lozada to increase the Potomac lead to 4-2.
The ninth inning for off to a good start for Dials with back to back strikeouts. However, he walked Ozzie Lewis and gave up a double that hit the base of the wall in right-center to Jason Bour to put runners at second and third. Kyle Shelton scalded a single on one hop to center fielder Nick Moresi. Lewis scored from third and Bour was sent home from second by manager Joe McEwing. Moresi had a perfect throw that was collected on one hop by Robby Jacobsen who tagged Bour as he caught the ball five feet up the third base line on a bang-bang play. Doug Vines ruled Bour out without any protest from the Dash and Potomac took home a 4-3 victory.
The Dash and Nationals hook up again tomorrow night for a Kraft Singles Tuesday Night at 7:03pm. Potomac sends Adrian Alaniz to the mound to oppose Stephen Sauer of Winston-Salem.
