
P-Nats Shut Down By Pelicians 9-1

Myrtle Beach starter Randall Delgado struck out seven in six innings as the Pelicans defeated the Nationals 9-1. The P-Nats fall to 11-14 while Myrtle improves to 8-17.
The Pelicans got the scoring started in the second. With two outs and no one on, Matt Kennelly singled then Chris Shehan reached on an error by Robby Jacobsen. Samuel Sime knocked Kennelly in for the first run of the day.
The Pelicans struck again off Potomac starter Evan Bronson in the 3rd as Yoel Campusano knocked in Cole Miles. The P-Nats struck back in the third as Mike Burgess hit a flair to left that went off the glove of Sime for an RBI-single to bring Potomac within a run.
The big hit of the game came in the top of the 7th. Leading 3-1, Myrtle Beach loaded the bases with two outs. Mike Kennelly hit the first pitch he saw from Jessee Estrada over the left field wall putting the Pelicans up 7-1. Myrtle Beach added two more in the 9th.
Delgado retired the final ten batters he faced as Pelican pitchers limited Potomac to just five total hits and only one extra base hit. Myrtle Beach recorded 13 strikeouts and only four walks on the day. Kennelly led the way for the Pelicans going three for four with five RBI, three runs and a stolen base.
The P-Nats got 5 1/3 solid innings from Evan Bronson who struck out five while walking none giving up two earned runs.
Jose Lozada was 2-for-4 to pace the P-Nats offense. Of the nine runs surrendered only four were earned.
Potomac and Myrtle Beach play again tomorrow at 7:03 p.m. for game three of the four-game set. Potomac has Marcos Frias (0-1, 6.10 in 5 starts) against Brett Oberholtzer (1-0, 5.06 in 1 start).
