P-Bruins Win in Overtime 2-1

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Providence Bruins scored 31 seconds into overtime to defeat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 2-1 and take a three games to none series lead. Carter Camper scored the game winning goal, while Niklas Svedberg had 32 saves in the winning effort.

Both teams were unable to score during the first period, though each team had a few scoring chances. The Penguins had two man advantages, though its best opportunities came even strength. Providence had half of its first power play in the opening frame, though odd-man rushes at even strength supplied the best challenges to home goaltender, Brad Thiessen.

The P-Bruins scored first for the first time in the series, opening the scoring early in the middle period. Jared Knight scored his first professional playoff goal at 3:04 mark of the second period with a wrister from the far side off of Thiessen's leg pad. Kyle MacKinnon and David Warsofsky logged the assists on the play.

The Penguins tied the game at one at the 10:42 mark. Trevor Smith chipped a rebound in just wide of Svedberg. Chad Kolarik and Cody Wild had the helpers that knotted the game at one apiece. The game went into the second intermission tied at one.

In the third, both goalies made some impressive saves. Svedberg made a huge glove stop at the top of the crease after a turnover gave Derek Nesbitt a mini-breakaway with 5:26 left. Later in the third, the Penguins had a few more good chances, but the P-Bruins escaped. A late power play led to an extended rush for the Pens, but Svedberg and the defense in front of him controlled the rebounds and eventually cleared the zone. The P-Bruins had one last chance with a rebound in the slot in the final 15 seconds of the frame, but Wilkes-Barre worked it away as time expired.

Camper scored the game-winner just 31 seconds into the extra period as he intercepted a poor pass just inside the blue line. He passed the puck to Jordan Caron, who worked the puck to Craig Cunningham as Camper headed for the far side of the crease. The P-Bruins center scored his league-leading seventh goal of the postseason to give his team a 2-1 victory and a three-games-to-none series lead.

Providence was 0-for-2 on the power play, while Wilkes-Barre went 0-for-3 on the man-advantage. Svedberg notched his sixth straight win with 32 saves, while Thiessen had 20 stops at the other end.

Providence has a chance to wrap up the series with Game 4 at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre on Friday at 7:05. Providence Bruins playoffs are presented by Dunkin' Donuts.
