Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins spent the holiday week on the road for a trio of games, and the team took four of a possible six points on the trip. Wednesday in Binghamton, Providence came away with a 2-1 overtime victory thanks to Colton Hargrove's game winner 1:22 into the extra period. In the first of two against the Charlotte Checkers, the P-Bruins suffered an ugly 8-2 Saturday night loss and gave up a season high in goals. The team rebounded on Sunday afternoon, as behind a goal from Hargrove and shootout goals from Colby Cave and Ryan Fitzgerald the Bruins salvaged a split in Charlotte with a 2-1 win.
Providence now sits third in the Atlantic Division and fifth overall in the Conference at 10-6-2-0 with 22 points. They finished November taking exactly half of the 20 possible points in the standings, going 4-4-2 in the month. Despite allowing eight goals Saturday, the P-Bruins are still fourth in the AHL with 2.56 goals allowed per game. The team is getting a reputation for being one of the most physical in the AHL, as Sena Acolatse leads all players with 65 penalty minutes and five fighting majors.
Hargrove has had a great month and that continued this week. Not only did he lead the club with two goals, he led them in November goals with four and took over the team lead in the category with six. Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson and Austin Czarnik each registered two assists during the road trip as Czarnik increased his team lead in assists (8) and points (13). Jeremy Lauzon, who didn't play this weekend due to injury, continues to lead the team and all AHL rookie defensemen with a +8 rating. Jordan Binnington played a tremendous game Sunday to help his club win in the shootout, and in four November games posted a 1.46 GAA and a save percentage of 94.3%.
After three weekends without such a stretch, the P-Bruins will play three games in three days starting with a pair of games Friday and Saturday against the Binghamton Devils at 7:05pm. The team then hits the road for a 3pm face off against the Sound Tigers, their first trip of the season to Bridgeport.
