Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins and Worcester IceCats completed a home-and-home series at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday afternoon, with Worcester skating to a 4-2 win. The Bruins had been down 2-0 after two periods, but rallied to tie the game with two third period goals. The IceCats scored late in the third and sealed the win on an empty net goal with two seconds remaining in regulation. Sunday's game was the end of a stretch that saw the Black and Gold play seven games in 10 nights. Head coach Scott Gordon's team posted a 4-1-1-1 record over that span, taking 10 of a possible 14 points. The Bruins are now 21-13-10-1 on the season, putting them in second place in the Atlantic Division, five points behind division-leading Hartford.
Center Andre Savage scored a goal for the third straight game, his 12th of the year overall. He is now tied with Carl Corazzini, who is on recall to the Boston Bruins, for the team goal-scoring lead. His 12-20-32 totals in 46 games also leads the team. Savage had 3-4-7 totals over the weekend, and has now taken over sole possession of third place on the franchise career scoring list with 66-94-160 totals in 166 games. Only former Bruins Tim Sweeney (172 points) and Sergei Zholtok (186 points) are ahead of him.
Providence center Matt Herr scored the Bruins' other goal, his ninth of the year. Brendan Walsh assisted on it, giving him points (3-2-5) in four straight games. Goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 29 shots in the loss.
The Bruins begin a three-game road trip on Wednesday, January 28, when they take on the Hershey Bears at 7:30 p.m. They visit the Norfolk Admirals on Friday, January 30 at 7:30 p.m., before returning to Hershey for a 7:00 p.m. game the next night. All three games will be broadcast live on WDDZ AM-550.
The Bruins return home to host the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday, February 6 at 7:05 p.m.
