Worcester, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Worcester Sharks 4-1 Saturday Night at the DCU Center. The P-Bruins received goals from Jamie Arniel, Lane MacDermid, Maxime Sauve and Jeremy Reich.
The P-Bruins opened up the scoring at the 1:51 mark of the opening period. With traffic in front of the net, Arniel tipped a rebound passed Carter Hutton to tally his 23rd goal of the season. Sauve and Ryan Button picked up the assists. For Button it was his first career professional assist point. After the P-Bruins failed to score on their only power play of the game, the Sharks went on the man-advantage and at the 19:04 mark, T.J. Trevelyan tipped the puck in on a second-chance opportunity that was set up by Benn Ferriero and Tommy Wingels. The Bruins and Sharks entered the first intermission tied 1 to 1.
The P-Bruins retook the lead at the 5:22 mark in the second period. MacDermid caught a pass from Stefan Chaput in front of the Worcester net and shot the puck through Hutton's five-hole to make it 2-1 Providence. Adam Estoclet picked up the second assist on the goal which marked his first professional career point. The P-Bruins led 2-1 going into the second intermission.
Just under eight minutes into the third period, the P-Bruins provided goaltender Michael Hutchinson with a critical insurance goal. 7:46 into the final frame, Sauve grabbed the puck out of midair and maintained possession after skating through two Sharks defensemen. Sauve took a top-shelf wrist shot from the left face off circle that trickled passed Hutton to give Providence a 3-1 lead. Arniel had the lone assist. The P-Bruins finished off the scoring with an empty net goal at the 18:53 mark from Reich to make it 4-1. Trent Whitfield and Kirk MacDonald had the assists as the P-Bruins went on to the 4-1 victory.
Hutchinson earned the win, stopping 33 attempts, while Hutton suffered the loss, making 24 saves before he was pulled for the extra attacker. The P-Bruins were 0-for-1 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
