Richmond Kickers News Release

HARRISON, NJ - The Richmond Kickers would take a point on the road against the New York Red Bulls II Saturday afternoon. New York would strike first in the 68th minute, but a 90th minute game-tying goal from Brian Ownby would draw Richmond level late.

New York would get the first opportunity of the match in the 4th minute. Derrick Etienne, Jr. would send a free kick in to the far post trying to find Konrad Plewa. The free kick was just over his head and out for a Richmond goal kick.

Yudai Imura would start a chance for Richmond in the 9th minute. After winning the ball in the midfield, Imura slotted the ball through to Jason Yeisley as he lays it off to Michael Callahan. Callahan tried to return the ball as Yeisley was rushing into the box and New York keeper Ryan Meara comes out to shut it down.

Richmond had their best chance of the first half from Miguel Aguilar in the 21st minute. Samuel Asante collected the ball just inside the New York side of the field. Asante played the ball over the top to Yeisley, who knocks it down to Aguilar at the top of the New York box. Aguilar breaks past his defender and gets a shot off right into the side netting.

After several free kicks for New York, Derrick Etienne, Jr. would connect with Aaron Long at the far post in the 31st minute. Long's header is sent just wide of the Richmond goal.

Just before the halftime break in the 45th minute, New York would come close to taking a lead. Konrad Plewa collected the ball about 35 yards out and with no one defending tries the shot that rattles the post and out for a Richmond goal kick.

Just four minutes into the second half, New York again would come close as Konrad Plewa plays a dangerous cross into Brandon Allen at the top of the six-yard box. Turner would make the save, but the flag was up for the offside call.

Fred Owusu Sekyere would have a chance in the 54th minute. Miguel Aguilar on the left side of the New York box sends a cross to the other side of the box to find Luiz Fernando. Fernando would find Owusu Sekyere at the top of the New York box and would try a chance that sails over the goal.

NYRB II would open the scoring in the 68th minute. Stefano Bonomo would dispossess Hugh Roberts and cross the ball in to the top of the Richmond box and find Derrick Etienne, Jr. His shot would get past Kickers keeper Matt Turner and hit the post right to the feet of Anatole Abang. Abang would make no mistake putting the ball into the open net.

Richmond nearly leveled the score just two minutes later. Samuel Asante played the ball down the left wing to Brian Ownby. Ownby placed a cross in to Jason Yeisley right at the top of the six-yard box. His header is sent right into the hands of NYRB II keeper Ryan Meara.

Second half substitute Sunny Jane would come close for Richmond in the 87th minute. Miguel Aguilar was able to get to the endline, trying to send in a cross. His cross is deflected up to the top of the box, which Jane is able to control and tries for a shot that is wide of the goal.

Richmond would finally get the goal they were looking for in the 90th minute. Matt Turner would start the play well outside of his box and find Hugh Roberts at the top of the New York box. Roberts headed the ball down to Jason Yeisley, who turns and sends a pass to Luiz Fernando out wide. Alex Lee made a run towards the New York box and Fernando laid the ball off for him. Lee would send the ball into the near post and connect with Brian Ownby for a header and the game tying goal.

The Richmond Kickers will be back at City Stadium on Wednesday, May 18 at 7pm for the Second Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against Aromas Café FC. Tickets are on sale now at RichmondKickers.com.
