Forest City Owls News Release

FOREST CITY, N.C. - The Forest City Owls fired an offensive barrage in their first meeting against the Thomasville Hi-Toms, dropping the Hi-Toms, 9-0, at McNair Field on Monday night. The Owls improve to 4-3, while the Hi-Toms fall to 2-4. The Owls boast a three-game winning streak.

Owls righty Seth Cutler-Voltz was tremendous for the second consecutive time this season. Much like his season-opening victory at Asheboro, Cutler-Voltz pitched seven strong innings of shutout ball, allowing only four hits, striking out seven batters and walking four. Cutler-Voltz came away with his second win of the season.

Thomasville starter Austin Moyer got roughed up from the get-go. He allowed eight runs on nine hits in only 3 1/3 innings of action. Moyer was saddled with the loss.

The Owls bats were alive from the very start. DH Konstantine Diamaduros laced a double to right field with one out in the top of the first. Immediately afterwards, 1B Dusty Quattlebaum poked a single into right field, bringing Diamaduros home and giving the Owls a 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning.

Forest City put up a two-spot in the bottom of the second. With LF Nick Thimesch standing on second base, Diamaduros hammered another double to center field, sending Thimesch home. In the next at-bat, Quattlebaum ripped a base hit that scored Diamaduros. Quattlebaum was thrown out at second as he attempted to stretch a single into a double. The Owls led 3-0 after two.

The Owls put the game away in the bottom of the fourth inning. After CF Michael Bishop led off the frame with a triple, Thimesch brought him home on a single rocketed up the middle. A handful of at-bats later, Quattlebaum struck again, hitting a single to right center, scoring Thimesch and 2B Hector Crespo. With Diamaduros and Quattlebaum aboard, RF Axel Johnson pulverized a Mike Mayers fastball over the right-field wall. Johnson's three-run homer put the icing on Forest City's highest-scoring inning of the season, and gave the game its 9-0 final tally.

The Owls bullpen came up big in the final two innings of the ballgame. Brennan Huelse and Greg Harrison teamed up to close out the Hi-Toms allowing no runs and just one hit, while striking out three Thomasville hitters.

Quattlebaum went 3-for-4 with a season-high four RBIs. Diamaduros went 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI, and three runs scored. Axel Johnson's three RBIs all came on his fourth-inning dinger. Thimesch and catcher Dan Burant each had two hits. Thomasville SS Stephen Carmon was the only Hi-Tom to total more than one hit.

The Owls and Hi-Toms will face off once again tomorrow night at Finch Field in Thomasville. First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
