Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

For the second consecutive game, the Waterloo Black Hawks came out on top in a 4-3 overtime matchup, winning on the road against the Sioux City Musketeers Tuesday.

The trip did not get off to a promising start. Wind and blowing snow delayed the Hawks, and Waterloo struggled in the first period. Stephan Vigier scored on a wrap-around at 3:38. A turnover set up a score for Adam Schmidt at 7:42. Then a power play tally for Danny Wurden at 12:32 put Waterloo in a 3-0 hole at intermission.

Derek Arnold started the comeback, flipping in a backhander during a four-on-three power play at 5:10 of the second. Tyler Barnes redirected a Zach Palmquist shot less than four minutes later to make the score 3-2.

After killing off a penalty in the mid-stages of the third the Hawks evened the game when Patrick Divjak's shot rebounded to Jamie Hill, who was left with an open side. The final 8:18 of regulation was played without further scoring. In the extra period, Waterloo didn't wait long to pull ahead. Dan Sova fired a puck wide of the net, but it caromed off the end boards right to Palmquist who flipped it in at 32 seconds.

The Hawks had defeated the Sioux Falls Stampede in overtime by the same score on Sunday. Waterloo faces their third consecutive Western Division opponent while visiting the Des Moines Buccaneers Friday. A rematch against Sioux City at Young Arena is on the schedule Saturday at 7:05.
