An exciting week for the Sun players overseas. EuroLeague action picked back up for the first time in 2020 and Jasmine Thomas touched down in Poland to join Gorzow for the spring season.
To tip-off the New Year, UMMC grabbed a 71-50 win over Nadezhda on Wednesday, Jan 8. Jonquel Jones chipped in four points, three rebounds and three blocks. UMMC currently sits in first place in the EuroLeague with an 8-1 overall record. In Russian league play on Saturday, UMMC faced Novosibirsk and picked up a 99-62 victory.
Alyssa Thomas, Bri Jones and Morgan Tuck also appeared in EuroLeague action on Wednesday. Thomas and Jones competed against Bourges while Tuck faced Venezia.
USK downed Bourges, 82-64 behind 17 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists from Thomas and nine points, four rebounds and two steals from Jones. USK is in second place in the EuroLeague also with an 8-1 overall record.
The pair of Maryland graduates also competed against Ostrava on Saturday, Jan. 11. Jones posted 36 points, seven rebounds and one assist while Thomas added 19 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. USK Praha defeated Ostrava 117-49.
Cukurova fell to Venezia 70-61. Tuck did not see action in the contest.
In her first game back overseas, J. Thomas faced Enisey with Gorzow in EuroCup competition. Gorzow fell short 93-77 in Round One of the EuroCup playoffs. Thomas scored 18 points, had a hand in five baskets and swiped two steals. On Sunday, Jan. 12 Gorzow defeated Lublin, 88-65. In front of the home crowd for the first time this year, Thomas scored eight points, grabbed two rebounds and dished out a team-high five assists.
Courtney Williams and Izmit defeated Ozel Idare, 87-69. Williams recorded 29 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the victory.
Natisha Hiedeman was also back in action for the first time since the holiday break. Lulea faced Mark on Friday, Jan. 10 in SBL play and pulled out a 78-61 win.
