Outlaws Squeak Past River Otters 3-2 In Shootout

February 23, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

Maxime Gingras's spectacular performance in net gave his Kansas City Outlaws a 3-2 shootout victory against the Missouri River Otters Wednesday night at the Family Arena.

Kansas City scored the game's first goal, and it came on an odd-man break in the first period. Jay Murphy and Jason Ruff skated in on a two-on-one, and while Jason Tapp stopped the initial shot, Ruff fired home the rebound to give the Outlaws the lead. But with 46 seconds remaining in the opening period, Jim Montgomery took a feed from Ryan Johnson and buried a backhander to tie the game at one.

Neither team dented the twine in the second period. The Outlaws struck first in the final period, as Briane Thompson scored on the rebound of a Jimmy Callahan shot. The River Otters tied the game on a power play with eight minutes left, as Barret Jackman hammered a one-timer behind Gingras.

Jay Murphy, Mark Lee, and Vaclav Zavoral scored for Kansas City in the shootout, while only Barrie Moore and Lars Pettersen tallied for the River Otters. Gingras made 44 saves for the victory, while Tapp made 22 saves in the shootout loss.

The River Otters play the IceHogs Friday night at the MetroCentre. The puck drops at 7:05 PM CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 and the B2 webcast at www.riverotters.com.
