CHICO, CALIF - The Chico Outlaws announced on Thursday the signing of 1B/DH Norm Hutchins. The 34 year-old Hutchins will bolster an Outlaws line-up that will be looking to make a strong start to the second half of the 2009 Golden Baseball League season.

Hutchins spent the first half of the 2009 season with the Edmonton Capitals, posting a .324 batting average with 3 home-runs and 23 RBI's. Despite his strong performance in the first half, he was released by the Capitals at the All-Star break.

Hutchins, a 15-year minor league veteran, was originally signed by the Los Angeles Angels after being drafted in the second round of the 1994 amateur draft. He quickly escalated through the Angels' minor league system, reaching AAA in 1998 before being traded to the Rockies in 2000. After being granted free agency following the 2000 season, Hutchins also spent time in the Tampa Bay Rays and Montreal Expos organizations.

Hutchins met the team in Calgary and will be active for tonight's game against the Vipers with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 PM (PDT). You can follow all the action at www.ChicoOutlaws.com with broadcaster Joe Rauschenberger coming to you live from Foothills Stadium in Calgary.
