Denver Outlaws News Release
DENVER - Attackman Brendan Mundorf was named the MLL Offensive Player of the Week for the final week of the 2011 MLL Season, the league announced on Monday.
Mundorf scored five goals and assisted on three others to finish with eight points in Denver's 15-9 victory over Chesapeake. All five goals and two of the assists came in the first half, pushing the Outlaws to a 12-1 lead at the intermission.
"Brendan has been playing at the highest level ever since he stepped onto a MLL field," Outlaws Head Coach Tom Slate said. "This year, he has been at a notch above that level. This was a huge game for the franchise and he just took over the game."
Mundorf also earned MLL Offensive Player of the Week honors in Weeks 1 and 5. He joins Hamilton's Jeremy Boltus as the only players to take home three weekly awards for the 2011 season. The honor is the sixth weekly award of Mundorf's career (5 offensive / 1 rookie of the week).
Mundorf, who leads the MLL with 174 goals since he entered the league in 2006, tied for the MLL lead with 30 goals in 2011. His 45 points ranked third and his 23 ground balls were tops among players with 25 or more goals.
The Outlaws will return to Navy-Marine Corps Stadium at 1 p.m. MDT on Saturday, Aug. 27 as the No. 2 seed for the 2011 MLL Playoff Tournament. Denver will be playing for the franchise's first Steinfeld Cup and will take on the No. 3 seed, Hamilton. For more information on MLL Championship Weekend, visit http://www.majorleaguelacrosse.com/.
