Earl Honored After Gem of a Performance

(Hamilton, August 15)... Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Monday its weekly award winners for the week ending August 14th and Hamilton Nationals midfielder David Earl was named as the Cascade MLL Rookie of the Week. Earl scored three times and added one assist in the Nats' 14-8 win over Long Island Saturday. The win propelled Hamilton (7-5) into the 2011 Sports Authority MLL Championship Weekend.

Earl earned first Cascade MLL Rookie of the Week award of his career on the strength of his third hat trick of the season while matching a season high with his four-point performance. Earl, who played in 10 games during the regular season, was the Nationals' fourth-leading scorer with 22 points. He scored 17 goals, including a two-point marker, and contributed four assists for Hamilton, which ended the regular season with three wins in its last four games. Earl was the Nationals' third-round selection (13th overall) in the 2011 MLL Collegiate Draft.

The Simsbury, Conn., native finished his college career at the University of Notre Dame in 2011. With the Fighting Irish, he collected 51 goals, 22 assists and 157 ground balls in a four-year career. He earned First Team All-American and Big East Midfielder of the Year honors in 2011. Earl was tied for the most points this season with 25 and recorded a team-high 10 assists with Notre Dame.

Earl and the Nationals will travel to the 2011 Sports Authority MLL Championship Weekend (August 27th and 28th) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The top-seeded Boston Cannons will face the defending MLL champion Chesapeake Bayhawks in the first semifinal at noon on Saturday, while Hamilton and Denver will play in the second semifinal at 3:00 p.m.

MLL Commissioner David Gross also announced today that Denver Outlaws attackman Brendan Mundorf was selected as the MLL Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season while Boston Cannons midfielder Chris Eck earned the MLL Defensive Player of the Week honor.
