Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO- In a night and day performance from yesterday, the Outlaws' hitters brought the lumber this afternoon. The Butte College baseball field looked like a Merry-Go-Round Thursday, as the hitters routinely rounded the bases. In the seven inning intra-squad scrimmage, the Outlaws' position players combined to rack up an impressive 16 hits.

The best performance of the Spring so far was turned in by Outfielder Justin Jacobs. The Southern California native managed to lift an Alex Foltz fastball over the left field wall for the first homerun of the preseason. Jacobs hit a double in his next at bat bringing his RBI total to four in the game.

Other noteworthy performances belong to Al Quintana and returning Outlaw Bobby Hill. Quintana originally impressed head coach Mike Marshall in the league-wide open tryouts held in Pasadena earlier this month and continues to make his presence known with his output on the field this Spring. Today, Quintana went 3-4 at the plate and showed off his canon of an arm when a pitch flew over his head, ricocheted off the backstop, and, after Quintana got his hands on it, found its way safely at second base to get the runner by a good ten feet. Bobby Hill, already having a productive Spring, went 2-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Despite the hitters having a field day, pitcher Travis Kane had his own brilliant outing. Kane held the bats in check for the first three innings of the game, allowing only one hit. Many of the Outlaws' hitters had a difficult time even making contact against Kane, as he mowed through the lineup collecting "K's" like they were trading cards on his way to tallying five on the day.

The Outlaws will now shift their focus to the Nor Cal Pirates, a semi-professional baseball team out of Chico, CA. Friday's game should be a refreshing change of scenery for the Outlaws, as it marks the first time they will face outside competition. The scheduled start time for the game is 10:00 AM and will be played at Butte College.
