Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
The Wilmington Blue Rocks retook the series lead against the Greenville Drive in a 5-3 victory on April 19th.
The Blue Rocks offense came out strong in the first inning with Daylen Lile getting a triple in the second at-bat of the game. Then the starter for the Drive Connely Early balked allowing Wilmington to take an early 1-0 lead.
A 1-0 lead is all that starter Luke Young needed. Young was nearly unhittable through his six innings of work, having eight strikeouts, giving up three hits, zero walks, and no runs.
The Blue Rocks offense would remain quiet until the fourth where John McHenry got his first career hit and stolen base in High-A. Then with two outs, Marcus Brown came through with an RBI single to right field, scoring McHenry and making it a 2-0 ball game.
The following inning Lile worked a walk which allowed a Kevin Made single to advance him to third. Brandon Bossiere would follow it up with a sacrifice fly allowing Lile to score and get the Blue Rocks lead up to three runs.
The bats would stay hot going into the sixth starting off with another McHenry base hit. Brown would then reach base after getting hit by a pitch. Both runners would score off a Viandel Pena double bringing the lead up to five for the Rocks.
The only inning Greenville was able to score runs was during the eighth. It all started with Tyler Miller getting the Drive's first extra-base hit of the game with a double. This then led to him advancing on a fielder's choice to third and Enderoso Lisa reaching first on a fielder's choice. Ahbram Linda hit a sacrifice fly which allowed Miller to score the first runs of the game for the Drive. Juan Chacon hit the second double of the inning, scoring Lisa from first. One more single from Bryan Gonazlez would score Chacon bringing in the third and final run for Greensville.
For Wilmington, Carlos Romero, Brendan Collins, and Todd Peterson would collectively have four strikeouts, three hits, three earned runs, and two walks from the bullpen.
These two teams will be back in action tomorrow April 20th at 6:05 at Frawley Stadium.
