Otters' Win Streak Snapped in Extras

Brett Adcock made the start Saturday for Evansville, his first in over a week after being activated Saturday.

A solo home run off the bat of Kenan Irizarry got the Crushers on the board in the first inning.

The game remained 1-0 until the fourth when another solo home run doubled the lead.

In the fifth, Lake Erie snagged two more runs, this time on a Connor Owings two-run single, raising the lead to 4-0.

The Otters began their comeback attempt in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on an Elijah MacNamee solo home run.

MacNamee drove in a second run for Evansville in the sixth, this time on an RBI single.

In the meantime, Brice Stuteville pitched 5.1 innings in long relief, keeping Evansville in the game.

The Otters trailed 4-2 entering the eighth, but still had work to do. Steven Sensley hit his third home run in four games to bring Evansville within one.

For the second time in 2022, Miles Gordon hit a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the ninth, this one tying the game at 4-4.

The game went to the tenth, where Lake Erie immediately made the most of their opportunity with the international tiebreaker rule in effect. After a leadoff flyout, four of the next five batters reached on walks, two scoring runs.

A two-run single from Sean Cheely put the Crushers up four after the top of the tenth.

In the bottom half, Evansville managed a single run as Jeffrey Baez (the extra innings ghost runner) scored on a wild pitch. The Otters would manage a pair of base runners but left both stranded, falling 8-5 in ten innings.

The loss went to Jake Polancic, who pitched the majority of the tenth inning for Evansville. Alexis Rivero earned the win in the tenth, his first of the season.

Evansville collectively struck out 15 times, tied for the most times in a single game this season.

The Otters hit a home run in their eighth straight game and still lead the Frontier League in team home runs (49).

Lake Erie and Evansville conclude their three-game set Sunday evening with Salute to the Negro Leagues Night starting at 5:05 p.m., gates opening at 4:00 p.m.

The Evansville Otters are the 2006 and 2016 Frontier League champions.
