Erie Otters News Release
Erie, Pa. - The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League have acquired defenseman Cory Genovese from the Sudbury Wolves in exchange for forward Connor Crisp and defenseman Jimmy McDowell. The Otters also received Kingston's third round pick in 2015 and Oshawa's fourth round pick in 2016 as part of the deal.
"We like what he brings to the ice," said General Manager Sherry Bassin. "We gave up some significant players to get him and that goes to show how much we believe in him."
Cory Genovese, a 6' 2", 203-pound defenseman, played in 25 regular season and 9 playoff games with the Wolves last season after being dealt by the Kitchener Rangers before the trade deadline. Genovese was originally drafted by Kitchener in the 13th round of the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. He has appeared in 118 OHL regular season games, tallying 2 goals and 9 assists for 11 points while maintaining a plus-minus rating of plus-8.
"He's a defensive defenseman and that's what we needed," head coach Kris Knoblauch said. "We have a few young guys back there and he can be a leader for them."
Connor Crisp has played his entire career in Erie after being selected 31st overall in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. Crisp appeared in 117 games for the Otters and registered 42 points. Jimmy McDowell was acquired from the Oshawa Generals in January 2010. McDowell went on to play in 72 games with the Otters over parts of two seasons.
