EVANSVILLE, IN - The River City Rascals failed for the third straight time to extend a four-game winning streak after Evansville evened up the three-game series with a 5-3 win in game two. The Otters hit two home runs in the first three innings of the ballgame and knocked Rascals starter Adam Tyler out of the game before the start of the third inning.

River City started the contest very much in the same fashion as they did the previous night when Mike Just started with a double to left off of Evansville starter Chris Pillsbury. Just would later score on a passed ball by Otter C Tom Peninno to give the Rascals their only lead of the game at 1-0. The home team answered back with three runs in the first which was capped off by Mike Galloway's first home run of the season since being traded from Florence two days ago.

The Rascals would tie the game at three when they loaded the bases off of Pillsbury (5-4)and scored twice on a bases loaded hit batsman with Jon Marshall at the plate and a sac fly by Just. But again it was Evansville taking advantage of Tyler's two walks in the bottom of the 2nd and would reclaim the lead on an RBI single by 3B Matt Edwards. For Edwards, it was his 11th run batted in on the season against Rascals pitching.

Tyler (1-2) only lasted two innings and allowed four runs on five hits and walked three in his first start away from T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Jeff Goldbach would cap off the offense for Evansville with his 10th home run of the season when he took reliever Steve Alverson deep to make it a 5-3 game. Alverson settled down and only gave up the one run in four innings of long relief for River City.

This sets up a rubber matchup between these two West Division Rivals as Shawn Philips will be making his first start in his Rascals' career Thursday night at 7:05. River City now stands 4.5 games behind the Otters for the final playoff spot in the Frontier League West Division. You can hear all the games on 100.7 FM KFNS.
