Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
WASHINGTON, PA - Washington Wild Things starter Tom Cochran pitched his third complete game shutout of the season as Washington cruised to an 11-0 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts on Wednesday night.
Cochran (7-5) went all nine for Washington (46-31) and allowed just three hits while walking two and striking out six. Windy City (31-45) starter Nick Renault (2-3) lasted five innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on eight hits while walking three and striking out a season-low three.
Washington scored in the first inning for the second straight night, with Pat Peavey driving in his Frontier League leading 72nd run of the year with a sacrifice fly after Chris Sidick reached on an error by SS Ray Navarro. Washington made it 2-0 in the second on a leadoff home run by Chris Carter, his sixth. Washington added three more in the fourth on a bases loaded triple by Mike Arbinger to increase the lead to 5-0. An RBI double by Matt Bok added another in the fifth. Two scored in the sixth on RBI singles by Kyle Werman and Lance Koenig to push the lead to 8-0. Washington tacked on three more in the eighth on an RBI double by Brett Grandstrand and a two RBI single by Sidick.
Carter led the way for Washington, finishing 3-5 with 4 RBI's, while falling a double short of the cycle. Koenig finished with four singles on a 4-5 night.
Mike Forbes and Anthony Albano both had infield singles, while Scott Vetter doubled to account for the three ThunderBolt hits. Doug Schutt stole two bases to add to his League leading total. Schutt now has 41 steals on the year.
Evansville led River City at press time, and with an Evansville win, Windy City would fall 3.5 out of the second playoff spot in the West. Windy City and Evansville play a four game series coming up this weekend.
Windy City returns to action Thursday night at Washington. First pitch is 7:05pm Eastern Time from Falconi Field. Drew Coffey (2-3, 5.94 ERA) opposes RHP Aaron Ledbetter (2-0, 2.84 ERA).
