Evansville Otters News Release
(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) - The Evansville Otters added another key infielder this afternoon in Sergio Miranda and also made their initial round of spring training releases as well.
Miranda, a former 13th round pick of the Chicago White Sox, signed with the Otters on Tuesday. Sergio will be entering his fifth professional season and comes to the Otters from Class-AA Huntsville.
"Miranda did very well the last few years and he can play anywhere in the infield," said Kevin Cope, the Evansville Otters Director of Player Personnel. "We look for him to be our third baseman. He does a good job of putting the ball in play."
Miranda holds a career .286 average and possesses a difficult time at the plate for opposing pitchers.
"Sergio is a tough out that should hit at the top of the lineup," Otters manager Andy McCauley said. "He will be solid defender at any of the infield positions."
Evansville also released pitchers Kyle Barry, Steve Matre, Kyle Ocampo, and Steve Raburn, as well as infielder Ryan Still.
Tickets are now on sale for the 8th annual exhibition game benefitting Jacobrquote s Village. The game will be played on Friday, May 11 at Historic Bosse Field with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm. General admission price is $4.00 as reserved seats will be selling for $6.00.
