
Otters Select Goaltender in Import Draft

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League selected Russian goaltender Ramis Sadikov with the 36th overall pick in today's Canadian Hockey League Import Draft. The 18 year-old stands 6-foot-5, 220 pounds. 2008-09 statistics were not available. Earlier today the Otters traded the 30th overall pick in the CHL Import Draft to the Ottawa 67's in exchange for the 36th overall pick in the Draft. As part of the deal, the Otters will also receive an 11th round pick in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. The Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League used the first overall pick to select Russian forward Stanislav Galiev, a top prospect for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft who played with the Indiana Ice in the USHL this past season. The Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League took forward Nino Niederreiter from HC Davos in Switzerland with the second overall pick and the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL traded up to the third overall selection to take Swedish forward Gabriel Landeskog, who played this past season with Djurgarden.

The seventh annual Erie Otters Champions for Education Golf Tournament presented by UPMC Health Plan will be held Monday, August 24th at Whispering Woods Golf Club. The noon shotgun tournament offers golfers an opportunity to play a round with a member of the Otters (current or alumni) on one of Erie's most challenging and picturesque 18-hole courses. The benefactor of the Tournament is the Erie Otters Education Fund, which supports The Brad Boyes Scholarship, awarded annually to a local male high school athlete who excels on and off the playing field. The Fund also assists in the educational needs of former members of the Otters following their OHL careers and numerous local charities. Registration for the tourney is $150 per player and includes golf with cart, lunch, snacks and beverages on the course, dinner following golf, prizes and much, much more.
