Hounds swap Import Draft Picks; Cooper coming North

The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club announced this morning that they have completed a deal involving picks in the upcoming Canadian Hockey League Import Draft. The draft begins at 9 a.m. this morning and you can follow the entire draft at www.chl.ca/importDraft.php .

In the deal the Greyhounds acquired the 6th overall pick in today's CHL Import draft (originally Kingston's) along with C/LW Vern Cooper from the Plymouth Whalers in exchange for the 3rd overall pick in the Import Draft and the right's to Hounds prospect Kevin Albers.

Albers was originally selected in 12th round of the 2007 OHL Priority Selection by the Hounds while Cooper was Plymouth's 1st round pick (13th overall) in 2006.

Cooper just completed his 3rd season in the OHL and in 189 regular season games has 44 goals, 48 assists, good for 92 points to go along with 148 penalty minutes. He has 6 points in 35 post-season games and was a part of the Whaler's 2007 OHL Championship squad.

Following this transaction the Hounds are now scheduled to make their first round pick at 10:15 a.m.
