Otters Pick up Exhibition Win at Florence

FLORENCE, Ky. - The Evansville Otters beat the Florence Freedom 4-3 Thursday in an exhibition rematch at UC Health Stadium.
Evansville's offense started the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double from Jeff Gardner, but Florence would have an equalizer in the bottom half with Jordan Brower's RBI tying the game at 1-1.
The Otters would score three unanswered runs to take a 4-1 lead, starting with a sacrifice fly by Toby Thomas in third that scored Pedro Barrios.
In the fifth, Barrios scored again on an RBI double from Thomas. Thomas would score later in the inning on a Carlos Castro RBI single.
Thomas finished 2 for 2 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
The Freedom scored in back-to-back innings with an RBI groundout by Kam Stewart in the fifth to go along with an RBI single from Cutter McDowell in the sixth, cutting the deficit to one run at 4-3 but Evansville's bullpen did not surrender a run over the last three innings.
Patrick McGuff started for the Otters and allowed an earned run on three hits in three innings while striking out six batters.
Evansville returns home Friday to host Southern Illinois in the annual Jacob's Village benefit exhibition game at 6:35 p.m. Tickets for this year's game are still available and may be purchased at all G.D. Ritzy's locations, Bosse Field and Jacob's Village.
